Elderly care services, also known as senior care services, is a type of specialized care that is tailored to the needs and requirements of elderly persons at various phases of their lives. As a result, the word "eldercare" is fairly broad, encompassing anything from assisted living and nursing care to adult daycare, home care, and even hospice care. Let us know more about Elderly care services in the below points.

Whether you are caring for your ageing parents yourself or have engaged a professional caregiver for the elderly, it is a financial issue that adds to the already long list of household bills. According to the latest 2021 study, Caregiving in the United States 2020, performed by the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) and AARP, almost 48 million families in the United States provide care to keep their loved ones (with special needs) safe and independent.

Finally, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is stepping in to help unpaid carers by giving much-needed financial support. Working family carers will be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $5,000 under the Credit for Caring Act.

According to the bill, the new nonrefundable federal tax credit can help eligible working family carers receive a 30% credit for qualified expenses exceeding $2,000 that they pay or incur. This welcome credit can help defray the expenses of Elderly Care Services as well as home adaptations like ramps and smart-home equipment that make caregiving at home safer and easier. As a result, you'll have more financial flexibility when it comes to hiring professional caretakers.

  1. Access to Medicaid programmes is being expanded to make home care more affordable:- For qualifying families, Medicaid covers the entire cost of basic nursing facility stays. However, when it comes to Medicaid-funded home care, options are limited and vary by state. The good news is that Biden's plan will expand access to the two Medicaid programmes listed below:
  • Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) - It allows states to expand home- and community-based Medicaid services for families with children who have suffered severe injuries, intellectual disabilities, or other debilitating conditions, allowing them to avoid nursing homes and other similar facilities.
  • Money Follows the Person programme - This government programme, which began in 2008, aims to expand HCBS alternatives in communities. It also contains quality-control procedures and prizes for states that seek to extend their services.

  1. Reduce the time it takes to get Medicaid coverage: - Even when they qualify, families may have to wait years to receive key Medicaid services. The government can now alleviate the wait for the elderly by implementing initiatives like HCBS as part of basic care.

Though it will take some time to observe how these changes and suggestions will affect caregiving families, we can confidently predict that employing hired Elder Care Caregivers will become a more cost-effective and appealing alternative, even for low-income families.
